Today was the start of Mrs. Idaho America 2009! What a fun day! The ladies all look so beautiful and did a great job in rehearsal. We had our annual Queen's Dinner and Seret Sister Gift Exchange at Johnny Carinos. Tomorrow is filled with more practice and then interviews starting at 6:00 pm. The best thing for me was watching everyone learn the opening number knowing that I don't have to this year! Yea for Me!

It has been an entire week since I crowned the Mrs. Idaho and I am just barely getting around to posting! Sorry! Jackie Walker, Mrs. Snake River, is our new Mrs. Idaho. Jackie and I competed together two years ago - - I was 2nd runner-up and she didn't make the top ten. We both went to Tucson to "Experience Mrs. America" and had a great time together. She took the next year off to have a baby (her 5th!) and I won. She was a great support to me during the last year and I am so proud of her and her accomplishment of winning this year! Congratulations Jackie!

The pageant was wonderful! All of the women were STUNNING! and anyone of them would have done a great job as Mrs. Idaho. If only there could have been 23 crowns! Marc & I hosted the pageant and we had a great time with that! I decided to pre-record my farewell instead of trying to do it live. I'm way too emotional!!! Here it is:

When my name was called as the new Mrs. Idaho America a dream came true and my once in a lifetime experience began! What started as a “Quest for the Crown” became a journey to touch the lives of other people. I am so very grateful for the many opportunities that I have had to serve the people of Idaho. It has been an honor to volunteer for Susan G. Komen, speak at a cycstic fibrosis fundraiser, float the lazy river for the Boys & Girls Club, visit pediatric patients at St. Luke’s and be a part of the once in a lifetime experience of Extreme Home Makeover. Being able to share my messages of modest dress, setting goals and being the best you to over 3000 teenagers had definitely been a highlight.

I believe that my greatest accomplishment as Mrs. Idaho has been remaining true to myself & to my standards. Representing my family and the state of Idaho at Mrs. America was a dream come true and while I didn’t win the title, I won the peace of mind in knowing that I made so many people, especially my children, proud of me. Thank you to everyone who made the trip to Tucson to support me and share in my victory as I was called to be in the top ten. I know that I had the largest and loudest cheering section.

Of course no part of this year would have been possible without the support of so many people. I especially want to thank my friends and sponsors - - many who are here tonight. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your donations of money, memberships, products and services. You helped me tremendously as I prepared for nationals.

To my mom & dad, thank you for raising me to be able to be the woman I am today. For 38 years you have encouraged me to set goals and then do whatever it takes to accomplish them.

Jeanette, thank you for raising a son who stands next to me in everything I do and for being a wonderful grandma to our children.

To my brothers & sisters - - I’m the only pageant girl in the family, but I appreciate you supporting me and I hope that you have been proud of what I have been able to accomplish.

Mandi - - you are amazing! I love that you love what you do. You, your mom, your sister and the rest of your staff provide a program for the married women in Idaho to shine and become all that they can be. Thank you a million times for making my year as Mrs. Idaho such a wonderful experience.

Taylor, Spencer, Grant, M’Kay & McCall ~ you are amazing children. Being your mother is the most rewarding calling that I could ever hope to have. I am so proud of each one of you and the wonderful choices you are making in your lives. Thank you for letting me miss the first day of school, a few sporting events and several home cooked meals while I fulfilled a dream of my own.

Marc, There are absolutely no words that can express how grateful I am for you. We’ve known each other since Kindergarten and you have always been someone that I look up to. I appreciate the sacrifices that you make for me and for our family and I will be forever grateful to you for encouraging me and believing in me. Thank you for being there unconditionally. I love you so much!!

Above all I’d like to thank my Heavenly Father for blessing me with such a beautiful life and for giving me talents that I have been able to share with others.

“To every thing there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” This has been my season to serve others and to represent the people of Idaho. It has been such a privilege to be a role model for women of all ages and I hope that each of us will continue to embrace and honor the strength of women. We have the power to be such an influence for good to those around us.

My year as Mrs. Idaho will forever hold a special place in my heart!

This morning started early for me as I made my last two official appearances. I was on air at WOW Country 104.3 to promote the pageant and then headed over to KIZN 92.3 to do the same. Brenda Mee is one of the morning hosts and she was recently crowned Mrs. Idaho International. We got some great pictures of Mrs. Idaho interviewing Mrs. Idaho!!! From there it was over to Capital High School for all day rehearsals. The opening number is looking great! At 6:00 pm the judges interviews began and all of the ladies looked stunning in their suits. This is still way too close to call!!! Tune in tomorrow for results!!!

Well, the big weekend is finally here! We started rehearsals today at 1:00 pm and let me tell you - - the contestants look fabulous. This is going to be such a tough pageant. We learned the opening production number and then headed to dinner at Johnny Carinos. Each of the ladies had drawn "secret sister" names at the workshop in February and those gifts were exchanged during dinner. I gave everyone a Dessert Cookbook that I put together - - I hope they liked it. It was definitely made with a LOT of love!!! I really appreicate everyone who sent recipes and helped make the book a success. I wasn't able to get great pictures of everyone, but here are a few. Enjoy!

Last Saturday several of the Mrs. Idaho contestants, and their families got together for a fun pizza party. This was a great opportunity for everyone to relax and meet each other's families. I can't believe the girls wanted to pizza so close to swimsuit competition!!! They all looked fabulous so I don't think it will matter!

Today was the Susan G. Komen "Spring into Style" Fashion Show. This is an event that happens each year at Edward's Greenhouse in Boise. I was in charge of getting models so of course the Mrs. Idaho contestants were my first choice! Don't they look beautiful? The food was wonderful, the setting was beautiful (all of the spring flowers!!!) and the purpose was even better. Lots of money was earned for Komen. Even though my reign is over in four weeks, I plan to stay with Komen and support this great organization.

This morning I had the honor of being the guest "storyteller" at Alyson Feely's preschool. Alyson is the daughter of my state director Mandi. I read "Penelope The Princess" "Do Princesses Wear Hiking Boots" and "Froggy's Sleepover." (had to have one for the boys!) I let the girls try on a real princess crown and was amazed that most of the boys wanted a turn also. We had fun getting our pictures taken. I took M'Kay and McCall with me since they didn't have school and M'Kay was my official photographer - - thanks to him I have pictures of the event. What a fun morning!

OK - - This week was CRAZY!!! When I was asked to speak for a couple of different events a while back, I was really excited. Little did I know that it would turn out to be such a difficult week. M'Kay & McCall both missed two days of school because of sore throats and fevers. Nothing too major - - but sick. I spoke at the Business Professionals of America Conference (BPA) for College Students on Friday Night. I was very involved with this organization when I was in high school (it was called OEA - - Office Education Association) and competed in Public Speaking and Job Interview. I also ran for a National Office and won, so I had the honor of serving in that role my Senior Year. Anyway, it was really fun to return and speak to this great organization. When Marc & I got home our oldest son, Taylor, had a fever of 104. Over the weekend it was up to 106 and we spent hours in the Quick Care (never a quick place) & Emergency Room. Of course no one could tell us what was wrong and sent us home with Tylenol. Finally on Monday we saw our pediatrician and found out that he has pneumonia. I've never seen him so sick - - it was horrible! He still wasn't doing well on Tuesday, but I had committed to speak in Kuna at a women's event and was still planning to go. Spencer came home after school with a fever of 101, Marc took M'Kay to the dermatologist and found out that he had a terrible staph infection all over his face and Grant's basketball coaches arrived on my doorstep with Grant because he hurt his foot in practice. I'm supposed to be leaving in 15 minutes to "Be Uplifting" to other women. I can't even get a smile on my face at this point! But, I went - - and it was a beautiful evening. Tally Doty, former Mrs. Idaho America Contestant, was in charge of the evening and Jackie Walker & Angela Boyle came to listen to me speak. It was great to see all of them.

When the media reported from Mrs. America that I was an RN - - maybe they were right! I have been taking temperatures, administering meds, changing sheets, and disinfecting every inch of my house - - every day! Thursday night I still had sick children, but ran over to Boise State to speak at the BPA opening ceremonies for the high school level. There were hundreds of extremely enthusiastic students and I had a great time. Even though the week was stressful, I did enjoy being Mrs. Idaho and getting away for just a moment to share my message with others. By the way, even though Grant got injured, he was the only one that didn't get sick. Well, until today when the school nurse called to have him picked up because of a fever!! :) I'm sure I'll be next because mom always ends up sick. If I could just wait 5 weeks until the pageant is over!

I have been encouraging the women to set goals throughout this experience. I had them write down three goals at the fall workshop and then I handed those back to them to review and re-evaluate. Then they again wrote down three goals and will get those back the night of the pageant. There are 20+ women who want the crown and only one will get the honor. It is my hope that everyone walks away on pageant night feeling like this was a worthwhile experience and that they did accomplish goals that they set.

This weekend was the McCall Winter Carnival. We headed up to McCall on Friday afternoon and the weather was absolutely gorgeous! Clear blue skies - - sun shining. We didn't even have to wear a coat. Then the sun went down!!! I was asked to crown the Winter Carnival Queen and her Princesses. It was a fun event - - but FREEZING! The atmosphere was really fun with lots of music, vendors and people. We got the kids a treat and then headed back to the hotel to swim and sit in the hot tub. The kids loved it. It started snowing during the night and never let up. The next morning was the parade - - I had a close to perfect hair day until the parade started. I stood out the sun roof and experienced my very first parade in a blizzard! I must admit though - - it was the best parade ever. There were so many people and they were so excited as my car drove by. Even though I ended up soaking wet with stringy hair - - I loved it!

I was honored to be asked to be the guest speaker for Parma's New Beginnings. The theme for their event was "A Night at the Emmy's" and each of the girls dressed in formal gowns, walked the red carpet and accepted their "statue." Marc & I were the emcees and were able to share how each of the these beautiful young women were "Steadfast & Immovalbe" in their lives.

The event was decorated beautifully. Each of the new girls received a rose and all of the girls received this Willow Tree as their statue. It was such a nice evening!

Humanitarian Bowl Hospital Visits

Larry Maneely, president, Board of Directors of the World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame, invited me accompany football players from Fresno State & Georgia Tech at St. Lukes, St. Als and the Veteran's Hospital. I ended up at St. Luke's Pediatrics and it was amazing to see the faces of those children light up when we came into the room. Marc & the boys were able to come along as well and the boys loved getting to hang out with all of the players. Fresno was kind enough to get hats for my boys and they wore them to the Humanitarian Bowl Game - - along with their Boise State Jerseys!

Boise Christmas Parade Best Theme Award!!!

The Parade theme this year was "Just Believe"

Our float was Silver & White Packages that each of the ladies sat on. We all wore pink scarves and themed our float - - "Just Believe in a Cure." The Mrs. Idaho America Pageant has a partnership with Komen for the Cure. Our float was beautiful and I am so excited that we won the award for the best theme. Way to go Ladies!!!

Today I had the honor of speaking to 400+ 6th graders at East Valley Middle School in Nampa. I spoke to them about "Being the Best You!" We talked about peer pressure, setting goals and working hard to accomplish them. It was fun to be able to share some of my Mrs. Idaho & Mrs. America experiences. When the assembly was over, the students were dismissed for lunch - - instead of eating, most of them stood in line for autographs! I signed sweatshirts, id cards, arms, notebooks - - you name it! I speak again in a couple of weeks to the 7th graders and then the 8th graders. Stay tuned for pictures!

Nampa 34th Ward Young Women - - A Garden of Girls

Another busy, busy week! On Wednesday evening I had the pleasure of speaking to the Nampa 34th Ward Young Women. It was their night of excellance program and their theme was "A Garden of Girls." I was asked to speak on "The Beauty Within." I loved being able to share some of my Mrs. America experiences with them. On Thursday I headed downtown Boise to "Total Care." They are one of my many fabulous sponsors. They were having an open house and asked me to make an appearance. Karin did my make-up for me when I got there (she did a great job!) Total Care has been extremely generous!!! When I was finished I caught the very end of a rehearsal for the Festival of Trees Fashion Show. I will be modeling for a fun little boutique in Eagle. Finally, today was the Veteran's Day Parade. This is one of my favorite appearances! It is all to honor our great veteran's and is an invitation only parade. I wanted to participate last year but found out that only Mrs. Idaho was invited - - but since Liz had another committement that day, I was able to fill in for her as Mrs. Nampa. I loved it so much and was really looking forward to being able to be in it again this year. As soon as the parade was over we were off to Capital High School for the Capital Classic Wrestling Tournament. I attended that event as Spencer & Grant's mom!!! What do you get when you have a past Mrs. Idaho, who is the mother of 3 boys, who is getting ready to have her first baby girl? You get a totally PINK PRINCESS SHOWER!!! (Given by the current Mrs. Idaho who is the mother of 4 boys, who finally got her girl!) The food was delicious and the company was even better. Tonight was the 10th annual "Susan G. Komen for the Cure" Pink Tea. What a great evening! The dinner was absolutely delicious- -chicken, salmon, potatoes, steamed vegetables and chocolate cake! We were honored to hear from Janet Harrison, the national Susan G. Komen for the Cure Director of Strategic Planning. It was great to have her here from Dallas as our guest. The Boise affiliate then awarded over $380,000 in grant money. What a difference we are making here in Idaho. I am so grateful to be able to share my voice in this great cause. A cure for Breast Cancer is not far away!

It was fun to see Michelle Edmonds (Channel Six) and Jackie Walker, Mrs. Snake River. I also had the pleasure of meeting Lyle Nelson from McCall Memorial Hospital. He is a four time U.S. Olympic Biathlete, and Team Captain and flag bearer for the 1988 Olympic Games in Calgary. Tamarack Resort dedicated its Nordic and snowshoe trail system to Mr. Nelson.

This week was crazy busy! On Wednesday I headed over to Boise (in the early morning hours) for an interview on the new WOW Country Radio Station, 104.3 They of course had lots of questions regarding Mrs. America, the snakebite, making top ten etc. It was a lot of fun to be there. Friday morning I had another radio interview - - this time with Brenda Mee (former Mrs. Idaho America) at KIZN 92.3 Again, questions about me sucking venom out of Mrs. Tennessee's foot, the airing of Mrs. America that night on WE television, and my platforms. Again, a super fun time! When I was finished, I ran over to the Women's Fitness Show at the Grove. Mrs. Idaho America had a booth there for 2 days and we were able to visit with so many women and spread the word about our pageant. Hopefully we met some future contestants. It was fun to be able to share some of my experiences and sign autogtaphs. After working the booth for about three hours, I headed home to get ready for the Mrs. Idaho America viewing party. We had about 45 people show up to the Pizza Factory to watch the show. It was so fun to be able to share that with so many of my family and friends. Marc was in Texas on business so he wasn't able to be with us. He was however able to watch it with about 30 of his family members down there. You would think that would be enough excitement for one week, but wait, we are not done yet. Saturday morning came bright and early as we all met at Sher's home for a quick breakfast before the Women's Fitness Celebration. This is the 15th year for this event -- the largest "women's only" walk in the nation. Mrs. Idaho participates each year and we have a fabulous time together. We even had Subway's own "Jared" as a celebrity. The weather was questionable this year and we had to break out the umbrellas a few times - - but all in all it was awesome!

What a week - - and that is just the Mrs. Idaho stuff! Add in scouts, football, school, football, cross country and more. Not to mention the fact that my washing machine broke - - not a good thing with laundry for 7 piling up! All in a day's work!!

Well, I did it! I made the top ten at Mrs. America!!! What an incredible feeling! The final night had lots of twists and turns - - including my earring dropping off my ear on stage during costume, someone taking my competition shoes right before I went on stage to compete in swimsuit, (didn't get a final look at myself because I was frantic trying to find them and you can see tape out the top of my suit - - thank you Mrs. South Dakota for letting me borrow your shoes) another earring breaking as I was headed on stage, and my gown getting completely wrapped around my foot as I competed in evening gown. I never did get my shoes back, I stumbled in evening gown - - but I accomplished a goal of a lifetime! I walked the runway on national television in a modest dress. I proved that you can look beautiful and be competitive in modest clothing. I am very committed to this platform and look forward to sharing that with young women. It was difficult to find "pageant" clothes for two weeks as well as "competition" clothes that would cover me where I wanted to be covered yet still make me look as though I belonged at Mrs. America. Mission accomplished!

The pageant was very much a reality show during finals. They called a "top ten" from the judges interview and preliminary swimsuit and evening gown competitions. Then they called an additional five that had extra points from games we participated in during the week. Some were eliminated immediately after swimsuit - - I was in the group with the highest scores! After evening gown they called a top five and I was not in that. The strangest thing to me is that some of the runners-up were not even originally selected by the judges - - but hey - - that is television and they are looking for ratings.

After a long night and a very early morning to catch our plane - - I was finally home. I spent most of Friday laying in bed between loads of laundry (still not done!) I am completely exhausted! Last night was our high school's first home football game. For as much fun as I had during the last two weeks at Mrs. America - - and as cool as it would have been to win the title, I must admit that as I sat there at that game (in 85 degree weather!) with my friends and my family there was no place I would have rather been. What a great feeling to be happy with me, who I am and what I stand for! I am a mother! While I love the glamour and the gowns, most often you will find me at football games and wrestling matches - - and I wouldn't trade it for anything!

Thank you to everyone who has supported me though this journey. I would not have been able to do it without you! I think I had the loudest cheering section! It is a great feeling to know how much people care!

I just want to clarify that none of the news reporters have checked their facts very well. I am not an RN, I did not pull a snake fang from Mrs. Tennessee's foot and I did not suck the venom out. Yes, I was there and yes I did take lots of pictures (what can you expect from a scrapbooker) but that is it. I have posted pictures of the snake on my blog, but the pictures of Christina are not going to be posted by me. I took them for her and she will decide what to do with them. Just goes to show you that what you see and hear from the media is often very wrong.

On a lighter note - - I am having a wonderful time at Mrs. America. What an experience! This morning we had golf & tennis challenges. Again, I stunk, but had a great time driving the golf cart around! As a tribute to my favorite college football team (BSU Broncos) I dressed in the Blue & Orange! I might have missed the home opener last night, but they were close to my heart today! Congrats on a "Blowout" game!

We also had a scavenger hunt. Again, I did not win the challenge, but had a blast anyway. I was lucky enough to get to be the one to go in the pool with all of my clothes on! I did it quickly, ran out and continued on with the hunt. When we were almost done we realized that I had to be in all the way to my neck - - so back in I went! We had a ton of fun!

Cowgirl Up!!!

Today we went horseback riding - - awesome! The view was breathtaking! My horse was named "BUCK" (there you go Brandon!!!) and he was so good. There was a real cowboy breakfast waiting for us after about an hour trail ride and then we rode back to the ranch. Once there we tried our luck at team pinning and horsehoes - - not so great at either one! The most eventful thing for me was having my horse slam me into a cactus. My leg is swollen and turning black! I have been icing it and hoping that it doesn't get any worse. It doesn't really hurt anymore but I have a very ugly leg for swimsuit competition - - lots of makeup!

The Arizona Daily Star interviewed me today also. They were mostly interested in how I am handling the schedule (fine!), the fact that I have the most children (5) and what I am loving about being here (no laundry)

Making my own tortilla!

Didn't look quite as good as the professionals, but it tasted wonderful!

This felt like home! When we are with Marc's family we love the music!!!

We spent the entire day in Mexico! So fun!!! Right after we crossed the border, (1 1/2 hour drive) the bus stopped and we were greeted by the paparazzi! There were so many news reporters and camera crews - - it was crazy! We were met by dignatarie of Nogales, Sonora who took us on a short walking tour of their city and then to a restaurant for drinks, nachos and chimichungas. We also got to have a few minutes of shopping - - not nearly enough time!!! After that we boarded the bus again and headed way out of town to a ranch. Once we turned off the pavement, we had to take a very narrow and very rough road. It took 40 minutes to travel 6.5 miles. It was worse than any roller coaster I have ever been on! The ranch was gorgeous and we were able to make homemade tortillas, paint ostrich eggs and make cheese. They had a wonderful buffet lunch and of course the Marichi's!!! It was such a fun time! The ride back was almost uneventful until they had to inspect our bus at the border. Everyone had to get off and sit in a little holding area for 30 minutes. We passed with flying colors and were back on the road!

Hello everybody!!! Things here in Tucson are still awesome! This is such a fun experience. Again, thanks to everyone who is sending flowers and cards and treats - - it really helps!

Yesterday we had a great dinner at a fun restaraunt in Tucson. They are big on wine and served a different type with each of the 4 courses. Obviously that did not affect me, but I think most of the ladies really enjoyed themselves. The dinner was delicious and the brownie/caramel/ice cream dessert was so good! (what swimsuit competition?!!!)

Well, the mother of five cannot change a diaper! I did horrible in the challenge - - but it was fun! The babies started with a disposable diaper loaded with pooh! It was gross and smelly! Then we had to clean it off without wipes and re-diaper it with a cloth diaper and pins. Mrs. District of Columbia was the champion and she has no children - - way to go Susan!

Western Day

Today was Western Day!!! We had breakfast at 6:45 am and then headed off to the Arizona Sonora Museum. We were able to tour part it and it was absolutely beautiful. There were wolves, black bears, mountain lions, deer and more. Some of the girls did photo shoots and the rest of us hung out in the gift shop while we waited. (It was so cool in there!)

After the Museum we headed to Old Tucson for lunch and tons more fun! There was a western shoot out, the can-can, and line dancing. It was a really neat place. We were there for about 4 hours before heading back to the hotel for dinner and then rehearsal from 7-10. Whew!!!

Yesterday we started off with rehearsal and then had the most incredible brunch you have ever seen! The fresh seafood was so delicious and I even had Sushi for the very first time. I couldn't get enough of the crab, shrimp and then of course the dessert bar. Hope I still fit into my evening gown! After lunch we went to the Pima Air & Space Museum. It was really cool! We go to sit in a plane just like Tom Cruise's, tour President Kennedy's "Air Force One" and so much more. Afterwards we were treated to an amazing dinner at one of Tucon's finest steakhouses. Another hot, but fun day!

Tonight we were treated to an incredible dinner at the Resort. The Ventana Room is the only 5 star restaurant in Tucson and one of only three in all of Arizona. It was delicious!!! Everyone was dressed in their finest gowns and looked absolutely stunning. After dinner we presented our gifts to Mr. Brian Johnson of the Loews Ventana Canyon Resort. I gave another coveted signed BSU football. (well, coveted by everyone at home!)

Back in my room I was welcomed by more good luck cards from Mandi and Roxanne! Thanks so much you guys! I can't even tell you how much I appreciate your support! Love you all!

Hello Everyone!

Yesterday was so busy - - but so fun! We had rehearsal all morning, gift exchange with the Mayor (an autographed football from the Boise State Broncos!!!) and a wonderful cocktail party at a mansion. We packed a lot into one day! Today has been completely relaxing! After breakfast I got in a good workout, did some quick shopping with a few other girls and then took a nap! Tonight is the President's Dinner and gift exchange (another Bronco Ball!) with the Hotel Manager. Can't wait to dress up!

My roommate - - Christine Wright

Hello from Tucson! I arrived safe & sound and am having a blast. After I landed in Tucson, I hopped into a Mrs. America van with 5 other contestants and headed to the beautiful resort. Since I came to watch Liz last year I kind of knew where things were at the hotel which was a huge plus! I met my roommate (Mrs. Ohio) and we get along so well together. She is a ton of fun to be around. We had a wonderful dinner last night with everyone dressed in long gowns or cocktail dresses. It was fun to finally meet all of these beautiful ladies! Diane Tucker, Mrs. World, was there and she is great.
This morning we were in the lobby at 7:00 am dressed in our matching t-shirts from "Ventana on the Greens" We all walked about a mile (so hot!!! even that early in the morning) to the Greens and once there we split into smaller groups. My group got to see and touch animals, critters and reptiles from the desert. Yes, I participated and even held a python! After that we had a great breakfast around the pool and then headed back to the resort. We had most of the day to ourselves except during our production interview. These interviews will be used during the telecast.

I'm off to dinner and then our first rehearsal with "Fritt & Fratt!" Enjoy the pictures!

Lauralyn was up bright and early, sometime around 4am, this morning getting ready for her 9am flight to Tucson. She is so excited to be representing the state of Idaho in the Mrs. America pageant, that she couldn't sleep any longer. After one more check to make sure she had everything, we loaded her bags and headed to the airport.

Spencer, Taylor, McCall, M'Kay and Grant were all up early so that we could wish mom well and see her off at the airport.

WOW!!! All I can say is, I am a lucky man! I can't wait to get to Tucson to cheer her on. We all leave on the 2nd to root her on.

Finally, it's time to say good-bye, and McCall lets her emotions out. She does not want her mom to leave, but she is excited to fly for the first time to see mom in Tucson.

WOW!!! What a night! I was completely overwhelmed by the support of my friends. There were almost 180 people who came to wish me good luck. THANK YOU!!! Karen Klein, Mrs. Nampa, was kind enough to host the party at her home and Liz Amar was incredible in the planning. So many of the Mrs. Idaho America contestants helped to make this such a nice evening for me and for my family. Thanks to everyone who brought salads, dessert, decorations etc. I also want to thank MaryAnn Adamson and Peggy Ricker for making all of the incredible deli sandwhiches. (MaryAnn used to own a Deli and still owns Harvest Classic Bakery). There was a silent auction that raised $1100 towards my Mrs. America expenses - - thank you to everyone who donated items and also to everyone who bid. I just can't express enough how much I truly love and appreciate each of you and for your endless support. Knowing that you believe in me is an amazing feeling! This morning I had the honor and priviledge of attending and welcoming participants to the "Swing to Breathe" Golf Tournamnet benefitting Cycstic Fibrosis. What a wonderful organization. The CF Foundation is very efficient with more than 90 cents of every dollar raised goin directly toward CF programs. When the CF Foundation began, few patients lived to attend elementary school. Thanks to the research and CF care centers supported by the CF Foundation, the median age of survival is now at 37 years.

This tournament was founded and organized each year by Mario & Jaime Ozuna (Marc's Cousin) Their son, Hayden, has CF and they dedicate much of their time to help make a difference. Marc and I had a great time this morning - - especially since so much of our family was there.

Last night was the "Fairest of the Fair" Pageant held in conjunction with the Western Idaho Fair. I was the emcee and had a great time. It was another one of those HOT nights and the stage was in full sun. WOW!!! I had the most amazing day ever! I was a VIP guest at the filming of Extreme Makeover Home Edition. It was the hottest day ever and I was a complete sweaty mess after just an hour - - I can't even begin to imagine how all of the workers spent hours (day after day) in the heat. I was treated like royalty and was met by the crowd of spectators with such enthusiasm. I was signing autographs left and right (hard hats, shirts, arms - - you name it!) It was a ton of fun! Around 4:00 pm CBH Homes handed over the keys to Ty Pennington. I can't even begin to express what a wonderful experience it was to watch the community come together to support this wonderful family. The amount of donations are staggering and the committment by so many is just plain AWESOME!!! After spending the afternoon at the new house, I ran back home (30 minutes) showered, changed clothes and headed back to Middleton for the huge community fundraiser. Over 2,000 people showed up for food, dancing, silent auctions and entertainment. All of the proceeds go to the Stockdale family. What a weekend!!! Friday night McCall competed in her very first pageant & I was really proud of her! It was western themed (we are so NOT western people!) She had a 3 minute interview and an on-stage question. Then, the next morning we went back for the official crowning. She tied for 1st place but the tie-breaker was interview score and the other little girl scored higher in that category. She absolutely loved the experience and that's what it is all about!

I also attended the festivites as Mrs. Idaho America. It is always so much fun to be part of "hometown" events. Nampa is home to the Natioanal Snake River Stampede every year which draws cowboys (and cowgirls) from all over the country.

As soon as I was done with that event, Marc & I hopped in the car and headed off to Moses Lake, Washington for the Mrs. Washington America Pageant. It was fun to go see another state's competition and to get to meet the new winner. Both of us will be headed to Tucson in about 5 weeks! YEA!

PS Marc and I are celebrating our anniversary today! I am so lucky to have such a wonderful husband who loves me and supports me in everything that I do. He is amazing!

Today 3 of my children and I headed over to Roaring Springs Water Park for "The Great Dolphin Drop" that benefits the Boys & Girls Club. I floated the Lazy River in my Crown & Banner while people purchased dolphins. The idea was to sell enough dolphins to get Mrs. Idaho off the river! 3 football players from the "Boise Burn" were floating the river as well. I was also interviewed live on Channel 7 news by Larry Gebert. The actual Dolphin Drop will be in August. All of the purchased dolphins will float the lazy river and the first one to cross wins great prizes! What a great fundrasier for a very worthy organization.

A couple of days ago a few of us from the Mrs. Idaho America group attended the farwell party for Vicki Benson, Mrs. Idaho International. She leaves next week for Chicago - - Good Luck!

Happy Birthday America!!! Today I was in the Boise "Liberty Day Parade" with four other Mrs. Idaho America contestants. Even though it was about a million degrees outside, we had a really fun time! We quickly decorated a trailer, added our children and Voila! We had a float! It is a blast doing things as a group. We have become such good friends and that is the best part of this entire pageant experience. We have a new contestant for next year's pageant - - welcome Peggy! On Thursday I was the guest speaker at a mother-daughter health & beauty fair for the Boise Cloverdale Ward. I spoke to them about "The seven magic keys to looking your best." Aside from outer beauty secrets, I also spoke about the inner beauty that each of us posses. My friend Colleen was in charge of the event and did a great job putting it together. After I spoke, the women had the opportunity to go around to different booths to learn about health, make-up, different hairstyles, breast cancer awareness, mental health and more. There was also a smoothie bar! It was a great night!

Tonight several of us attended Miss Idaho America & Miss Idaho Outstanding Teen. It was really fun to sit in the audience and not be on stage!!! The talent for both groups was absolutely outstanding! 24 Miss Contestants and 8 or 9 Teen Contestants. Idaho has some very tough competition! It was so fun to see my good friends Darla & Darelyn. I met both of them 19 years ago at the Idaho State Senate. I was a senior in high school and they were Senate secretaries. (Darelyn still is today for the President Pro-Tem) Darla has directed the Burley Jr. Miss Program for a few years and earned "Best Director" this year! She is headed to Mobile, Alabama to watch their locaal winner compete as Idaho's Junior Miss. Enjoy the pictures!

This morning I had an appointment with the Governor of Idaho, The Honorable Butch Otter. I took my entire family to meet with him and we had a great time. When I was a senior in High School I was a Senate Page and he was the Lt. Governor and then I also spent several more years working in the Senate as a committee secretary and he presided over the Senate. I love the political arena. My boys loved looking at his pictures - - especially the BSU one's. As soon as he was sworn in as Governor, he flew to Arizona to watch the Bronco's capture the Fiesta Bowl Title. What a way to spend your first day as the head of Idaho! Thank you Governor Otter for a memorable day today - -- both for me and for my family!

Today was "Old Fort Boise Days!" It is one of my fondest childhood memories growing up in Parma, Idaho. In fact, I was Miss Old Fort Boise in 1986!!! So long ago!!! The event celebrates the Old Fort that once stood near Parma. It was abandoned due to Indian attacks and floods and a replica was built in town. The walls are concrete and not adobe like the original, but the new fort gives visitors the feel of the Old West. The annual Old Fort Boise Days brings visitors from across the Boise Valley. Admission is $1. The week started out on Monday with the annual Old Fort Boise Queen's contest and I had the honor of being one of the judges. The girls were great! On Saturday morning my family headed back out to Parma for the parade. Instead of a fancy gown and a sleek car, I chose to be casual and ride in my dad's John Deere Gator. My parents still live in Parma where they run a feedlot with 11,500 head of cattle. To me it seemed very fitting that I take the "farm girl" approach rather than go glam!!! It was such a fun parade. There were so many people along the parade route that I knew - - even some of my teachers!!! My oldest son chauffeured me along with my daughter and two of my nieces. My husband and three other sons rode in the other gator. I love that my family is such a huge part of this entire Mrs. Idaho experience. I try to include them in as many of my appearances as possible. Enjoy the pictures of my wonderful little hometown - - PARMA!

Another appearance today!!! Several of us went to the Mrs. Idaho International Pageant to support our good friend Vicki Benson - -(Mrs. Idaho America 2001) She looked fabulous and she won! I am so happy for her! It was fun to see Deanna, Jennifer Liz and Debby - - contestants from Mrs. Idaho America. Also, 6 past Mrs. Idaho America's were there. It was quite a reunion! This morning started bright and early with our Columbia High School Wrestling Fundraiser. Marc & the boys were at the yard sale/car wash at 7:00am while McCall & I got ready for the parade. Some of the wrestlers walked the parade route with me and handed out flyers to direct people to the fundraiser. This was truly a family event since McCall got to ride with me, my wonderful husband Marc drove and my boys walked along side. Today was the Komen "Race for the Cure" Event!!! Several of the staff and contestants participated on the Mrs. Idaho America Team and we had a great time. It was so much fun to get to see everybody again. The day started early with breakfast at Sher's house (thanks so much for the fruit & muffins - - you are awesome!) After a few group photos, (we absolutely cannot do anything together without cameras) we all headed down to the race. Thank heavens for modern day technology - - namely cell phones! There were over 13,000 race participants this year. We were all able to find each other near the main stage and then waited until it started. We decided to be the last ones to take off and not get sandwiched in between so many people. We strolled along at our own pace and had a really good time catching up with everyone. I was so lucky to have my mom in her pink survivor shirt and my sweet daughter along for the day. It was overwhelming to see the number of racers out to support the cause. I felt bad that I didn't get a chance to tell everyone good bye, but it was hard to stick together. Beverly saved the day when my camera ran out of batteries - - you would have thought she was my own mother - - making get great pictures for this blog. Thanks Bev! Tonight was a GREAT night!!! My mom and I attended the Komen Survivor's Dinner at the Boise Center on the Grove. It was first class all the way. When we first walked in, there were trees lit up with pink lights - - so cool. Then, when we entered the main room there were probably 60+ round tables set to perfection! Every single chair was covered in a gorgeous, full-length satin cover with a hot pink organza bow tied around the back. There were lights hanging from the ceiling, centerpieces - - no detail was left untouched. Komen really knows how to throw a celebration!!! The silent auction tables were amazing - - you would not believe the generous donations. Several women (including myself) modeled clothing from Coldwater Creek and I loved mine so much that I bought it to take to Tucson!!! After a really nice dinner we were honored to hear from Dr. Vincent Kituku. When he was finished, the live auction began. It was so neat to see people dig deep into their pockets and support this great cause. Near the end of that, the emcee, Michelle Edmonds from Channel 6, told me that she had to get back to the station to broadcast the news and asked if I would finish out the evening. I was honored to do so! Congratulations to all of the survivors!!!

Last night was my first official appearance!!! I attended the Fashion Show event at Coldwater Creek in the mall. 10% of all sales went to Komen for the Cure. They really went all out with balloons, a beautiful cake, discounts, raffles and gifts. It was fun to see Linda, Mary and Jeannie from the Komen office. I will be modeling for Coldwater on Thursday at the Breast Cancer Survivor's Dinner so I was able to select my outfit while I was there. It was a fun night!!!

Mrs. Idaho America 2007

April 21, 2007 was a great night ~ Becoming Mrs. Idaho is something that I have always wanted to achieve. It was a goal even before I was married. I knew that I wanted to wait until my children were in school so that I could commit the time necessary to really be an active Mrs. Idaho. As most of you know, I competed last year and placed 2nd runner-up. I wasn't sure if I would compete again, but my boys reminded me that I always tell them to never give up and to keep trying - - I was put in my place.

Rehearsals began on Thursday. It was a really fun day (a little frustrating as we were learning the choreography for the opening number). All of the ladies are so amazing and we really had a great time together. Elizabeth Amar (Mrs. Idaho America 2006) hosted the Queen's Dinner at Johnny Carino's and boy was that delicious. I ate so much bread and dipping oil. It was a fun time to relax and just hang out with everyone. After that we went back to the hotel for a wonderful dessert bar (hello . . . swimsuit competition) We watched the slide shows of our families, and appearances as well as all of Liz's appearances. I can't believe how involved everyone was this year. What a difference we have made in our communities and throughout the state. After the slide show, we had our really fun gift exchange. Each contestant brought a gift for everyone that represents her city or herself. We got so many wonderful things - - chocolate, bath products, scrapbooks, potted flowers, bracelets, rings notepad, make-up, etc. It was so fun. Liz gave each of us a satin pillowcase with our name and title embroidered on it. Normally I would pack that away and "save" it for something special. Not this time - - I took it home and slept on it that very night. This year I took everyone a pink bag filled with Breast Cancer Awareness information and a small gift from the Susan G. Komen for the Cure office. I also gave everyone a stamp set with a beauty queen since I love to stamp and scrapbook. We were finally done around 11:00pm.

Friday arrived and we had a wonderful breakfast at Cracker Barrel. Mandi and her staff worked so hard to make this weekend really great and had gifts galore for each of us. Then, we were back at rehearsals. We continued to practice the opening number as well as costume, swimsuit, evening gown and awards. Our dressing rooms were so big this year and we all had plenty of room to get ready. (So much better than last year) We broke for dinner and then had our judge's interviews that evening. I left to go get my hair done and thought that I had plenty of time. I decided to stay at the salon to put on my make-up and gather my thoughts. When I got in the car to head back to the hotel, I realized that I had read my interview time wrong and was now really pushing it to get there on time. Plus, I wasn't dressed. I found a new talent - - I can undress, put on pantyhose, a skirt, and suit jacket all while driving down Eagle Road and the Freeway. Not really the frame of mind I wanted to be in for my interview. When I finally got there, they were running a little behind so I was fine - - WHEW. I felt like my interview went really well. The judges were personable and really easy to talk to. I think they made each of the girls feel comfortable.

Saturday morning came very early as we were to be at rehearsals again at 8:00 am. We worked really hard all day and it was fun to see things starting to come together. Our husbands arrived at 3:00 pm to rehearse evening gown with us. It was so nice to have that support. Everyone was busy downstairs getting their hair and make-up done. I had nerves throughout the day, but by the evening I was really calm and knew that whatever was meant to happen would happen. Finally, it was SHOWTIME. The opening number went great. I made a couple of mistakes but hopefully they weren't too obvious. Then it was costume time. It was so fun to see everyone's creativity. My costume was the same as last year - - a Boise State Football Player. Love those Broncos. Swimsuit was next and let me tell you how amazing everyone looked. Holy Cow. Idaho has some great looking women. Evening Gown soon followed and I must admit that I got a little emotional when I walked onto that stage and saw my handsome husband Marc. Winning his heart is such a much bigger prize than a crown. I am forever grateful for someone who loves and supports me unconditionally.

The big announcement - - First came the top 10. I was number 9 - - Whew Then came the top 5 and I was . . . Yup ~ You guessed it, number 5 - - HUGE WHEW. The on stage question is my scariest part of a pageant. I was asked "What is your favorite thing about Idaho?" I answered, "Aside from the Boise State Broncos, it would have to be the people." etc., etc., etc. Every single contestant did a really good job with their questions.

I haven't mentioned that at this point my feet have gone from sore to killing me to almost numb now. We are all behind the curtain while Elizabeth gives her farewell and takes her final walk. Susan and Carmen make sure that all of our trains are fanned out and that we are looking our best for the final moment. The curtain goes up, awards start to go out and we are now down to the end. I keep waiting to hear my name called out as a runner-up and before I know it I am standing in the center of the stage with Suzanne Buchanan. She is incredible and I am so proud of her - - it was her very first pageant!!! And the first runner-up is . . . Mrs. Blaine County - -the new Mrs. Idaho America 2007 is Mrs. Nampa, Lauralyn Salinas. Oh My Gosh I honestly could not believe that I had won. A dream that had been just that for so many years was finally a reality.

After lots of tears, pictures and hugs, it was time to go home. My kids were so excited for me and wanted to stay up to look at all of the prizes. I have such an awesome family. The weekend ended at 2:30am when we finally got to bed.
